Tourism Industry Tips Hat to Heritage Park
Heritage Park Historical Village was honoured three times at the 53rd annual White Hat Awards, held Wednesday night at the Jubilee Auditorium. The White Hats Awards honour the “best of the best” in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The Park won the White Hat Award for the Best Festival/Event/Attraction for the 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2014. For the first time ever, this award was a tie with the Scotia Bank Calgary Marathon also winning for Best Event. This award celebrates the best of Calgary's festivals, events or attractions and their contribution to the community, enhancing the awareness of Calgary and its reputation.
Heritage Park’s year-long 50th anniversary celebration, which brought in record numbers of visitors, and included the opening of the Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women, was recognized as having made a significant and recognizable contribution to the industry in Calgary as measured through financial/economic growth of the visitor industry, creation of a legacy, development of positive recognition and enhancement of the community and spirit of Calgary.
President and CEO of Heritage Park, Alida Visbach, had this to say about winning on Wednesday night, “This award is a testament to all of the employees and volunteers who work tirelessly to make Heritage Park a magical place for everyone. On the occasion of our 50th anniversary in 2014, I can’t think of a better honour and acknowledgement for all.”
Earlier in the evening, Alida Visbach was the recipient of the Mayor’s White Hat of the Year award. This award honours an individual who has made a significant and recognizable contribution to the tourism industry in Calgary. Alida was recognized for her 32-year commitment to the tourism industry and her leadership role at Heritage Park; in her work to grow the Park from 65 acres to 127, making the Park a year-round attraction, and creating legacy exhibits such as Gasoline Alley Museum the Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women. David Carpenter also took home the White Hat Award for Best Server in the category of Catering and Events.
