Travel Alberta congratulates 2015 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award winners
TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, recently awarded its 2015 Certificate of Excellence Awards to highly rated accommodations, restaurants and attractions worldwide. Of those recognized, 749 were Alberta based tourism businesses.
“We are thrilled that so many of our Alberta based tourism partners were recognized for the great experiences they provide to visitors,” said Royce Chwin, Travel Alberta’s Chief Executive Officer. “These moments create lasting impressions on our visitors which in turn create advocates for our Alberta tourism experiences and our province as a whole.”
Now in its fifth year, the award celebrates excellence in hospitality and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve great traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. Certificate of Excellence winners include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a superior customer experience.
The winners range from bed and breakfasts to hotels, from cafés to high-end restaurants, hidden attractions to world-famous parks and museums. Out of the 749 Certificate of Excellence winners in Alberta, 28 per cent are accommodations, 48 per cent are places to eat and 24 per cent are attractions.
"TripAdvisor is pleased to honor exceptional hospitality businesses that have received consistent praise and recognition by travelers on the site,” said Marc Charron President, TripAdvisor for Business. “By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive an improvement to hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition.”
According to data collected by TripAdvisor, the Certificate of Excellence award is correlated with increased business inquiries and traveler engagement levels for winners. Certificate of Excellence award-winning accommodations see on average four per cent more clicks from travelers on external booking links. Eateries see nearly 14 per cent more page views per session compared to non-winners, while attractions businesses see nine per cent more page views per session than non-winners.
When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honorees that takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of reviews and opinions submitted by travelers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period as well as business’s tenure and ranking on the Popularity Index on the site. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
